Mental Health Is Not a Luxury

By your sister, Zahraa Al-Amiri

Introduction 🌿

We all go through tough days, moments when it feels like the weight of the world is on our shoulders. Sometimes we can’t explain it, sometimes we can’t even share it with anyone. But what’s certain is that “mental health” is not something we can ignore or treat as a luxury.

What Mental Health Means 💭

Simply put, mental health is your ability to live your day with inner peace, to handle life’s pressures without breaking down, to feel your worth, and to love yourself — even if you experience failure or disappointment.

The Strange Paradox ❗

It’s strange how many people take care of their bodies: they watch their diet, exercise, and visit a doctor for a simple headache. But if their hearts break, they stay silent. If they feel deep emotional pain, they neglect it and choose to:

  • Withdraw into isolation, hiding their struggles from others
  • Or explode unintentionally at the first person in front of them

The Big Question 🤔

Why do we care about everything except our emotions and mental well-being?

The Right Understanding 🧠

What we need to understand is that caring for our mental health is not pampering, exaggeration, or a passing trend. On the contrary, caring for our mental health reflects the depth of our awareness and our inner strength.

What Does Mental Health Include? 📝

  • Saying “No” when you need to
  • Walking away from toxic relationships
  • Learning how to express your feelings without fear or shame
  • Pausing to say: “I’m tired, I need to talk or rest.”
  • Knowing your emotional boundaries and making them clear so others don’t harm your feelings or well-being

Steps to Care for Yourself 💖

  • Take your time
  • Listen to yourself
  • Don’t be harsh on yourself
  • Keep a support system — even if it’s just one or two people you trust
  • And if you don’t have anyone, there’s nothing wrong with seeing a specialist, talking, and releasing your negative feelings — just like you’d go to a doctor for physical pain

Conclusion ✨

Let’s always remember: we cannot live a balanced life without a peaceful mind.
If you feel unwell, it’s not a shame. The real shame is staying silent and letting yourself suffer in silence.
Take care of yourself — because you are worth it.
